Equivalent-Single-Layer discontinuous Galerkin methods for static analysis of multilayered shells

چکیده

An original formulation for the elastic analysis of multilayered shells is presented in this work. The key features are: representation shell mean surface via a generic system curvilinear coordinates; unified treatment general theories an Equivalent-Single-Layer approach based on through-the-thickness expansion covariant components displacement field; and Interior Penalty discontinuous Galerkin scheme solution set governing equations. combined use these enables high-order problem. Several numerical tests are isotropic, orthotropic with different geometrical configurations boundary conditions, including case non-smooth geometry. Comparisons analytical solutions finite-element simulations show accuracy as well capability robustness proposed formulation, which can be valuable tool generally-curved shells.

Discontinuous Galerkin methods

This paper is a short essay on discontinuous Galerkin methods intended for a very wide audience. We present the discontinuous Galerkin methods and describe and discuss their main features. Since the methods use completely discontinuous approximations, they produce mass matrices that are block-diagonal. This renders the methods highly parallelizable when applied to hyperbolic problems. Another co...

A C Discontinuous Galerkin Formulation for Thin Shells

This paper presents a C discontinuous Galerkin formulation for the simulation of thin shells. The method is based on Koiter’s shell model and allows finite element solutions to be obtained by using standard C Lagrange basis functions in terms of the displacement only. It invokes a curvature-like term by applying a lifting operation which transforms jumps in the normal rotation across element bo...

Analysis of Schwarz Methods for a Hybridizable Discontinuous Galerkin Discretization

Schwarz methods are attractive parallel solvers for large-scale linear systems obtained when partial differential equations are discretized. For hybridizable discontinuous Galerkin (HDG) methods, this is a relatively new field of research, because HDG methods impose continuity across elements using a Robin condition, while classical Schwarz solvers use Dirichlet transmission conditions. Robin c...

Unified Analysis of Discontinuous Galerkin Methods for Elliptic Problems

We provide a framework for the analysis of a large class of discontinuous methods for second-order elliptic problems. It allows for the understanding and comparison of most of the discontinuous Galerkin methods that have been proposed over the past three decades for the numerical treatment of elliptic problems.
